A reinforced version of this automatic transmission is installed on the restyled second-generation Edge ST.

Disadvantages of the Ford 7F40 gearbox
- This is a rare automatic transmission, and information about its weaknesses is limited;
- On specialized forums, complaints are limited to harsh shifting at low speeds;
- Some owners have also encountered problems with the parking mode;
- Most problems with this transmission are resolved by updating its firmware;
- Oil leaks are common along the axle shafts and through the electrical connector.
