Ford gearboxes

FordFord Motor Company is an American automobile manufacturer. It is the fourth-largest automobile manufacturer in the world by overall production volume. The company is headquartered in Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

Around 2000, the American company switched to a clear indexing system:

  • The first digit denotes the number of gears in the transmission, 4, 5, 6, or 10, respectively.
  • The second letter always indicates the vehicle’s drivetrain, where F is front-wheel drive and R is rear-wheel drive.
  • The third and fourth digits indicate the maximum engine torque.
  • At the end, a suffix of the letter E is sometimes included, indicating electronically controlled automatic transmission.

Gearbox Ford MT88

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The Ford MT88 or Getrag 7MTI550 7-speed manual transmission has been in production since 2021 and is installed in the Bronco SUV line, which is very popular in the American market. Five- and six-speed versions for pickup trucks are also available, designated 5MTI550 and 6MTI550.

This transmission, developed by Getrag, was paired with engines up to 450 Nm.

This transmission is a clone of the Getrag 6DCT250, is completely identical to the Renault DC4.
