Disadvantages of the Ford 4F44 gearbox
- This transmission isn’t considered very reliable, but it’s extremely simple and easy to repair;
- The oil pump is the most problematic, as both the gears and the shaft can break;
- Another common failure is the double clutch drum failure in the Forward-Direct;
- The solenoid assembly fails fairly quickly and is usually replaced entirely;
- Consumables include plain bearings, bushings, brake bands, and chains.
