General MotorsGeneral Motors (abbreviated GM) is the largest American automobile corporation, and was the world’s largest automobile manufacturer for 77 years until 2008. As of 2014, the company ranked third globally (after Toyota and Volkswagen) in terms of vehicle sales (9.92 million units). GM manufactures in 29 countries and sells in 192. The company is headquartered in Detroit.

The index of a specific gearbox always consists of four characters:

  • The first digit indicates the number of gears, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10, respectively.
  • The second letter indicates the primary drive, where T stands for front and L stands for rear.
  • The last digits indicate the maximum torque for the gearbox.

Gearbox GM AF50

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The General Motors AF50 8-speed automatic transmission has been produced at the Japanese plant since 2016 and is installed in front- and all-wheel-drive General Motors models such as the Opel Insignia and Buick Regal. This automatic transmission is essentially a variant of the popular Aisin TG-81SC.

This automatic transmission was essentially a variant of the popular Aisin TF-80SC.

CVT GM VT20E

Unlike its older sibling, this transmission was only available in front-wheel drive.
