The General Motors AF50 8-speed automatic transmission has been produced at the Japanese plant since 2016 and is installed in front- and all-wheel-drive General Motors models such as the Opel Insignia and Buick Regal. This automatic transmission is essentially a variant of the popular Aisin TG-81SC.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Buick Regal 6 (E2XX) in 2017 – …;
- Buick LaCrosse 3 (P2XX) in 2016 – 2017;
- Cadillac XT5 I (C1UL) in 2016 – 2019;
- Chevrolet Malibu 9 (V400) in 2016 – 2017;
- Opel Insignia B (Z18) in 2017 – …
Disadvantages of the GM AF50 gearbox
- This is a fairly reliable automatic transmission, but only if you maintain its cooling system;
- The small heat exchanger becomes clogged by 100,000 km, and the automatic transmission begins to overheat;
- High temperatures reduce the lifespan of the Teflon rings, and the lubrication pressure drops;
- Then, due to low oil pressure in the system, the clutch packs simply burn out;
- Also, the valve body solenoids quickly become contaminated with wear debris from the clutches.
