The F17 5-speed manual transmission debuted on the Vectra in the late 1980s and has since been installed in many Opel and Chevrolet vehicles with engines up to 170 Nm of torque. A reinforced version of the transmission, designated F17+, is available for engines with 200 Nm of torque.

Disadvantages of the Opel F17 gearbox
- This is one of the most problematic manual transmissions, but it often breaks down only with powerful engines;
- The main weak points of this transmission are the synchronizers and differential;
- The secondary shaft bearings also often fail, leading to play;
- Difficulty shifting may occur due to wear of the gear selector mechanism;
- Watch for leaks, as a decrease in lubrication significantly reduces the life of the transmission.
