Jatco gearboxes

JatcoJatco Ltd. is a multinational Japanese company and one of the largest auto component manufacturers, headquartered in Fuji (Shizuoka). Nissan owns 75% of the company. In 2017, Jatco’s global production volume reached 100 million units. The acronym JaTCo itself stands for Japanese Automatic Transmission Company.

The Japanese company’s gearbox index consists of six characters:

  • The first letter is the symbol of the transmission manufacturer, Jatco.
  • The second letter indicates the drive type, where F is front-wheel drive and R is rear-wheel drive.
  • The third digit determines the number of gears in the automatic transmission, where 0 is a continuously variable transmission.
  • The fourth and fifth digits indicate the transmission’s family number.
  • The sixth letter serves as a suffix (E stands for electronic control).

Gearbox Jatco RS6F94R

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The RS6F94R 6-speed manual transmission has been assembled at the Seville, Spain, plant since 2006 and is installed in many popular models. In some countries, it is known as the Nissan Juke or Qashqai manual transmission. This transmission is one of many variations of the Renault TL4 manual transmission.

CVT Jatco JF020E

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The Jatco JF020E, or CVT7 W/R, continuously variable transmission has been produced in Guangzhou since 2015 and is used in popular models such as the Nissan Kicks, Sylphy, and Versa under the RE0F12A designation. The planetary gearset expands the gear ratio range to 8.7.

CVT Jatco JF019E

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The Jatco JF019E continuously variable transmission has been produced since 2014 and is used in Nissan hybrid models. Two transmission versions are available: RE0F10H and RE0F10J, for front-wheel or all-wheel drive. This transmission differs from other CVT8s in that it uses a dry clutch instead of a torque converter.

CVT Jatco JF009E

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The Jatco JF009E continuously variable transmission, also known as the RE0F08A and RE0F08B, was produced from 2002 to 2014 and installed in smaller Nissan models with engines up to 1.8 liters and 175 Nm of torque. This transmission is primarily known from Japanese right-hand drive vehicles.

CVT Jatco F1C1

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The Jatco F1C1 continuously variable transmission was produced from 2000 to 2012 by special order of Mitsubishi and installed in its vehicles with low-power engines up to 1.5 liters and 145 Nm of torque. This transmission was also used by Hyundai in its models for the Korean market.

CVT Jatco RE0F21A

Specifications Gear ratios Installed on Disadvantages The Jatco RE0F21A continuously variable transmission was assembled from 1998 to 2012 and installed in Nissan and Fiat models with low-power engines up to 1.4 liters and up to 130 Nm of torque. In addition to the standard version, there was also a CVT-M6 version with manual shifting capability.

CVT Jatco RE0F06A

In the European market, this automatic transmission is primarily known from the popular Primera model. The transmission was even paired with 2.5-liter engines with up to 245 Nm of torque.
