CVT Jatco JF011E

The Jatco JF011E CVT, or RE0F10A, was first introduced by the company back in 2005 and is installed in a huge number of models produced under nine different brands. This transmission is known as the FK0 in Renault vehicles and the F1CJA or W1CJA in Mitsubishi vehicles.

In 2005, Jatco introduced its most popular continuously variable transmission, which sold in huge numbers and was installed in vehicles from nine different brands. This CVT was paired with gasoline engines up to 2.5 liters and produced 250 Nm of torque and was known as the Nissan RE0F10A, Mitsubishi F1CJA/W1CJA, Renault FK0/FR8, and Jeep CVT2/CVT2M.

The design is classic for V-belt CVTs. Pulleys, consisting of two cones, are connected by a belt that transmits torque from the drive pulley to the driven pulley, and the cone movement is controlled by a stepper motor. This changes the gear ratio. A planetary gearset is responsible for engaging reverse gear.

Disadvantages of the Jatco JF011E gearbox

  • The most common failure of this CVT is wear of the input and output shaft bearings, which results in a loud noise from the transmission while the vehicle is in motion. All four bearings are usually replaced at the same time to avoid having to disassemble the transmission.
  • The second most common cause of service calls is belt stretching, the lifespan of which is highly dependent on driving style. It often stretches before 100,000 km. When replacing a standard 10-band belt, it is better to install a reinforced 12-band belt.
  • If you ignore the recommendations for changing the CVT lubricant, wear debris will gradually clog the oil pump relief valve, causing frequent transmission jerking. When replacing a standard valve, it is better to install a larger diameter 17.63 mm valve.
  • Another weak point of this transmission is the stepper motor that adjusts the gear ratio. When it fails, the CVT gets stuck in one gear. Also, the solenoids and speed sensors are a regular source of electrical problems.
