Opel gearboxes

OpelOpel Automobile GmbH is a German automobile manufacturer headquartered in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The company was founded on January 21, 1862; automobile production began in 1899. Since 1929, it has been owned by General Motors. Since 2017, it has been owned by Groupe PSA (Stellantis).

The gearbox index consists of three or four characters: a pair of letters and a pair of numbers.

  • The first letter, A, distinguishes automatic transmissions from other transmission types.
  • The letter F indicates the vehicle’s drivetrain type, in this case front-wheel drive.
  • The following numbers indicate the power index, and the higher the index, the more robust the gearbox.

Gearbox GM AF50
