The F20 5-speed manual transmission was produced at Getrag in Germany from 1988 to 1997 and was installed in the Opel Astra, Vectra, Calibra, and Kadett with the 2.0-liter C20XE engine. There were modifications of this transmission for less powerful units, designated F16 and F18.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Opel Astra F (T92) in 1991 – 1996;
- Opel Calibra A (C89) in 1989 – 1997;
- Opel Kadett E (T85) in 1988 – 1991;
- Opel Vectra A (J89) in 1988 – 1994.
Disadvantages of the Opel F20 gearbox
- This is a reliable manual transmission, and the main complaints are related to difficulty shifting;
- The lever sticking is often caused by wear on the shifter bushing or its plastic sleeve;
- A loose gear selector mechanism is also a common culprit;
- Sometimes the input shaft bearings hum in the transmission, but this only occurs at high mileage;
- Many owners add more than 2 liters of oil to the transmission, and it runs quieter.
