Disadvantages of the GM 4T60 gearbox
- In the early years, the chain was the biggest problem; it could start making noise by 50,000 km;
- Then it was replaced, and the automatic transmission began to run for 200,000 km or more without any problems;
- Closer to 200,000 km, the bearings can start to hum, and the transmission will need to be overhauled;
- Also, at high mileage, the bushings and Teflon rings in the drums wear out;
- And the petal-type oil pump does not tolerate long driving at high speeds.
