Mitsubishi gearboxes

MitsubishiMitsubishi Motors is a Japanese automobile manufacturer, part of the Mitsubishi Group, which is the largest manufacturing group in Japan. The headquarters is in Tokyo. In 1970, Mitsubishi Motors was formed from the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries division.

The index of any company gearbox consists of five characters:

  1. The first letter means the drive type: F/W – front/all-wheel drive, R/V – rear/all-wheel drive.
  2. The second digit indicates the number of gears of the gearbox and CVTs always have one.
  3. The third letter is the type of transmission: A – classic automatic, C – continuously variable, D – robotic transmission.
  4. The fourth character indicates the name of the series, it can be either a letter or a number.
  5. The fifth digit shows the position of a specific gearbox model within its series.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A21

The 4-speed automatic transmission Mitsubishi F4A21 or under the old name KM176 was produced in Japan from 1987 to 2001 and was installed on models such as Mirage, Lancer and Colt. Based on this transmission, Hyundai automatic transmissions were created under the designations A4AF1, A4AF2 and A4AF3.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A22

The 4-speed automatic transmission Mitsubishi F4A22 or under the old name KM175 was produced by the company from 1987 to 2001 and was installed on Lancer, Colt, Galant or Space Runner. Based on this transmission, Hyundai automatic transmissions were created under the indexes A4BF1, A4BF2 and A4BF3.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A23

The 4-speed automatic transmission Mitsubishi F4A23 or under the old name KM177 was produced from 1991 to 1998 and was installed on such models as the Eclipse, Galant and Space Wagon. This transmission was intended for front-wheel drive cars with an engine up to 2.4 liters and 200 Nm.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A33

The Mitsubishi F4A33 4-speed automatic transmission was produced only from 1990 to 1999 and was installed on front-wheel drive versions of such models as Eclipse, Galant and Diamante. There was a modification of this automatic transmission for all-wheel drive cars under its designation W4A33.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A41

The Mitsubishi F4A41 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1996 to 2011 and was installed on many models of the Japanese concern such as Colt, Carisma, Lancer and Space Star. After the update in 2003, this automatic transmission is more often found under a slightly different index F4A4A.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A42

The Mitsubishi F4A42 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1996 to 2013 and was installed on popular models of the concern such as Galant and Outlander, as well as cars from Hyundai/Kia. The latest versions of this automatic transmission had the index F4A42-2 and F4A4B, all-wheel drive W4A42 and W4A4B.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F4A51

The Mitsubishi F4A51 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1996 to 2012 and was installed on powerful versions of such models as Galant and Outlander, as well as cars from Hyundai/Kia. The latest versions of this gearbox had the index F4A51-2 and F4A5A, and all-wheel drive W4A51 and W4A5A.

Gearbox Mitsubishi W4A32

The Mitsubishi W4A32 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1991 to 1997 and was installed on all-wheel drive versions of such right-hand drive models as Shariot or RVR. A number of sources describe a front-wheel drive version of the F4A32, but in reality there is no such automatic transmission.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V4A11

The Mitsubishi V4A11 4-speed automatic transmission was produced only from 1998 to 2012 and was installed on all-wheel drive versions of the Pajero Mini with a naturally aspirated version of the 4A30 engine. There was a rare modification of this automatic transmission for rear-wheel drive cars under the symbol R4A11.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V4A12

The Mitsubishi V4A12 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled only from 1998 to 2012 and was installed on all-wheel drive versions of the Pajero Mini with a supercharged modification of the 4A30 engine. The same automatic transmission was installed on rear-wheel drive models, but under its own designation R4A12.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V4AW2

The Mitsubishi V4AW2 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1991 to 2006 and was installed on Pajero 2 with a 4D56 diesel engine, as well as a 12-valve version of the 6G72 power unit. This transmission is essentially one of the varieties of the popular automatic transmission Aisin AW03-72L.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V4AW3

The Mitsubishi V4AW3 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1991 to 2006 and was installed on Pajero 2 with a 4M40 diesel engine and 6G72 and 6G74 petrol V6 power units. This automatic transmission in the diesel version was a clone of the Aisin AW30-40LE, and in the petrol version it was the AW30-43LE.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V4A51

The Mitsubishi V4A51 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1996 to 2016 and was installed on many versions of the Pajero or Montero, and is also known as the Pajero Sport automatic transmission. There was a modification of this gearbox for rear-wheel drive models with the index R4A51.

Gearbox Mitsubishi F5A51

The Mitsubishi F5A51 5-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1997 to 2012 and was installed on models such as the Galant and Diamante, including the all-wheel drive version of the W5A51. This gearbox, also known as F5A5A, served as the basis for the Hyundai A5GF1 and A5HF1 automatic transmissions.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V5A51

The Mitsubishi V5A51 5-speed automatic transmission was produced from 2000 to 2016 and was installed on various versions of the Pajero or L200, including rear-wheel drive ones like the R5A51. In recent years of production, this automatic transmission was known under the index V5A5A and R5A5A, respectively.

Gearbox Mitsubishi V5AWF

The Mitsubishi V5AWF 5-speed automatic transmission has been produced by the concern since 2008 and is installed on the Pajero 4 with a 4M41 diesel engine, and since 2015 also on the L200 and Pajero Sport with a 4N15 diesel engine.
