Mazda gearboxes

MazdaMazda is a Japanese car manufacturer that produces Mazda cars. The company was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Hiroshima. Mazda’s two main factories are located in Japan (in the cities of Hiroshima and Hofu), 18 additional ones are outside its borders.

The name of the gearbox consists of two parts, which are separated by a hyphen:

  • The name of the automatic transmission manufacturer is encrypted on the left side: J – Jatco, F – Ford and AW – Aisin Warner.
  • The type of drive is also indicated there: F – front, R – rear and the number of gears in the automatic transmission.
  • On the right side, the suffix EL stands for electrical control and locking of the torque converter.

Gearbox Mazda F3A

The Mazda F3A 3-speed automatic transmission was produced in Japan from 1982 to 1997 and was installed on numerous compact models from Mazda, Ford, Isuzu, Kia and Suzuki. This transmission, also known as the Jatco JF301H, was installed with engines up to 145 Nm of torque.

Gearbox Mazda G4A-EL

The Mazda G4A-EL 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled by the company from 1987 to 1992 and was installed on such well-known models of the concern as 323, 626, MX-6 and a similar Ford Probe. A lightweight version with the index G4A-HL was installed on versions of the 323 model with smaller engines.

Gearbox Mazda GF4A-EL

The Mazda GF4A-EL or Ford 4EAT-G 4-speed automatic transmission has been assembled since 1991 and is installed on a number of the most popular models, including those with powerful V6 engines. A simplified modification of this transmission formed the basis of the very famous CD4E gearbox.

Gearbox Mazda F4A-EL

The Mazda F4A-EL or Ford 4EAT-F 4-speed automatic transmission has been produced since 1989 and is installed on cars of several brands, including some Kia models. This transmission is designed for power units up to 2.0 liters or 150 Nm of torque.

Gearbox Mazda AW6A-EL

The Mazda AW6A-EL 6-speed automatic transmission and its all-wheel drive version AW6AX-EL were produced from 2005 to 2016 and installed on the Model 6, CX-7, CX-9 and MPV minivan. By design, these gearboxes are only variations of the popular Aisin TF-81SC automatic gearbox.

Gearbox Mazda FW6A-EL

The Mazda FW6A-EL 6-speed automatic transmission and its all-wheel drive version GW6A-EL have been produced since 2008 and are installed on all modern models of the company with engines up to 2.5 liters. This transmission has its own index FS6A-EL in a number of information sources.

Gearbox Mazda SJ6A-EL

The Mazda SJ6A-EL 6-speed automatic transmission has been produced in Japan since 2005 and is installed on the popular MX-5 convertibles and all their varieties such as Miata and Roadster. In fact, this transmission is one of the varieties of the famous Aisin TB61SN automatic transmission.
