Gearbox Opel F13

The F13 5-speed manual transmission has been assembled by General Motors since the 1980s and is installed in many Opel models with gasoline and diesel engines up to 1.7 liters and 130 Nm. The earliest versions of the transmission were 4-speed, and the latest modifications are called F13+.

Disadvantages of the Opel F13 gearbox

  • This manual transmission operates normally with engines up to 1.4 liters and doesn’t cause any particular problems;
  • However, with 1.6 and 1.7 liter engines, the synchronizers and differential quickly fail;
  • The secondary shaft bearings also fail, causing significant play;
  • The gear selection mechanism in this manual transmission also has a short lifespan;
  • Seal leaks are common, and low lubrication levels reduce the transmission’s lifespan.
