Gearbox GM 9T50

The General Motors 9T50 9-speed automatic transmission (codenamed M3D, M3E, M3H, M3F) has been produced since 2017 and is installed in popular models such as the Buick Envision, Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac XT4. This transmission is paired with 2.0-liter LTG and LSY turbocharged engines and 1.6-liter LH7 diesel engine.

Disadvantages of the GM 9T50 gearbox

  • The transmission presented many problems in the early years, but most have already been fixed;
  • First of all, the software was crude, and the manufacturer released a number of firmware updates;
  • Due to a design defect, the first automatic transmissions shifted poorly when cold;
  • Also worth noting is the extremely high sensitivity of the solenoids to oil cleanliness;
  • Advantages include very easy access to the valve body for cleaning or repair.
