The Opel AF23 5-speed automatic transmission was produced in Japan from 2002 to 2008 and was installed in the third-generation Vectra and the similar Signum with the Z22SE and Z22YH engines. This automatic transmission is known by its own designation, the AW55-50SN, in Aisin’s classification.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Opel Signum A (Z03) in 2003 – 2008
- Opel Vectra C (Z02) in 2002 – 2008
Disadvantages of the Opel AF23 gearbox
- This is a very reliable Japanese automatic transmission, but it could present problems in the early years;
- The first transmissions suffered from antifreeze contamination of the oil and short valve body life;
- By 2004, the weak points had been corrected, and the transmissions were able to easily last 300,000 km;
- At high mileage, the valve body often becomes clogged with wear debris from the torque converter clutch;
- In the most severe cases, the oil pump bushing breaks, causing leaks.
