Gearbox Jatco JR710E

The Jatco JR710E or RE7R01A 7-speed automatic transmission has been produced by the Japanese company since 2008 and is installed in numerous models of the concern, sold under the Nissan and Infiniti brands. This automatic transmission is paired with V6 power units with torque up to 400 Nm.

In 2008, Jatco introduced a new 7-speed automatic transmission to replace the JR507E 5-speed automatic. This transmission was designed for rear-wheel/all-wheel drive models with engines up to 4.0 liters and was unified with its 5-speed predecessor in many components. Engineers simply added a fourth planetary gear set and additional clutches to the clutch packs, removed the brake band, and upgraded the valve body with an integrated TCM control board.

To meet modern acceleration demands, the transmission uses a multi-plate torque converter lockup clutch pack with clutch slip modes. Models with engine displacements over 4.0 liters are equipped with the related JR711E automatic transmission.

Disadvantages of the Jatco JR710E gearbox

  • During the first few years of production, this automatic transmission would frequently go into neutral when accelerating from low speeds, resulting in P0735/P0739 errors and transmission wear. The cause was incorrect firmware for the valve body, but after replacing it, everything returned to normal.
  • The transmission cooling radiator is located at the bottom of the package and quickly becomes dirty. Furthermore, hot catalytic converters are located near the transmission pan. Therefore, the automatic transmission constantly overheats, which significantly reduces its service life.
  • This automatic transmission has a wide slip zone and lockup of the torque converter clutch, so with heavy use, the transmission oil becomes dirty especially quickly. If it is not replaced, the valve body will become clogged, causing oil pressure surges in the system.
  • Due to a drop in oil pressure in the automatic transmission, the clutches begin to burn out. The first to fail is the B3 brake package, followed by the C1 package, and then the others.
  • Electrical failures are common: both the control unit and the valve body solenoids fail. The output speed sensor is also considered a weak point.
  • Driving a car with a push-pull transmission for a long time can damage the oil pump bushing, and sometimes the center caliper as well. Lubricant leaks are also quite common here.
