Disadvantages of the Opel AF22 gearbox
- This is a reliable Japanese automatic transmission, and problems only occur at high mileage;
- It all starts when the automatic transmission’s valve body becomes clogged with wear debris from the torque converter clutch;
- And if it’s not cleaned, the clutch packs will burn due to the solenoids seizing;
- Then the oil pump bushing breaks, leaks appear, and oil pressure drops;
- The brake band and forward-direct drum are also considered weak points in the transmission.
