Gearbox Opel F18

The Opel F18 5-speed manual transmission was produced by the company from 1988 to 2003 and was installed in popular models such as the Astra G, Vectra B, Zafira A, and Calibra. In addition to the basic transmission, a reinforced F18+ version was available for engines with up to 210 Nm.

Disadvantages of the Opel F18 gearbox

  • This is a very reliable manual transmission, but it can be a bit of a hassle at high mileage;
  • Most complaints on forums are related to the gear selection mechanism in one way or another;
  • The gearshift lever not only becomes loose, but also jams due to bushing wear;
  • After 200,000 km, the input shaft bearings often start to hum;
  • The differential pinions, which don’t last the longest, are also considered a drawback of the transmission.
