The Opel AF17 4-speed automatic transmission was produced by the company from 1998 to 2010 and was installed in mid-size models like the Astra, Vectra, and Zafira with 1.8-liter engines. This automatic transmission was essentially a variant of the well-known Aisin AW60-41SN.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Opel Astra G (T98) in 1998 – 2005
- Opel Astra H (A04) in 2004 – 2010
- Opel Vectra B (J96) in 1999 – 2002
- Opel Zafira A (T98) in 1999 – 2005
Disadvantages of the Opel AF17 gearbox
- This is a very robust Japanese automatic transmission, and problems occur at high mileage;
- It all starts after the torque converter clutch wears out and the valve body solenoids become dirty;
- Most often, the linear pressure solenoid or torque converter lockup solenoid fails;
- If the clutch is severely worn, its seal may leak, causing a drop in oil pressure;
- The planetary gearbox is very sensitive to low oil levels; it’s rather weak;
- Also, the input and output speed sensors often fail in transmissions of this series.
