The Jatco JF016E (or RE0F10D or RE0F10F) CVT-8 was first introduced in 2012 and is installed in vehicles across various brands as a replacement for the renowned JF011E CVT. This transmission is known as the FK0 and FR8 in Renault models, as the F1CJC and W1CJC in Mitsubishi models.

In 2012, Jatco introduced the replacement for its best-known continuously variable transmission, the JF011E. The new CVT8 is almost identical to its predecessor in terms of hardware, but there are some innovations: for example, the stepper motor has been eliminated, and its function is now performed by solenoids. The powerband and torque converter lockup zone have also been significantly expanded, increasing transmission flexibility and reducing 0-60 time by a second.
The engineers have extensively reduced internal resistance, reducing the number of hydraulic valves from 12 to 8, and lowering oil pressure. All this has resulted in a drop in oil temperature from 90-110 degrees Celsius to 75-90 degrees Celsius. It has also become possible to shift gears virtually using steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Disadvantages of the Jatco JF016E gearbox
- From 2012 to 2013, this CVT saw limited use, and for good reason. It suffered from numerous teething problems: widespread valve body failures and software flaws that caused the belt to cut grooves in the drive cone.
- To improve vehicle performance, the torque converter lockup zone was expanded, which led to rapid buildup of wear debris and its spread throughout the system. The first thing that becomes clogged here is the oil pump pressure relief valve, causing shocks.
- In the JF016 transmission, engineers abandoned the stepper motor in favor of solenoids, which are sensitive to oil contamination. And since the calibration value module is no longer available, if one solenoid fails, you’ll have to buy a new valve body.
- Very often, service calls are made for torque converter repairs, as well as replacement of pulley bearings, which can also damage their housing seat.
