Gearbox GM 6T45

The General Motors 6T45 6-speed automatic transmission was produced from 2008 to 2019 and installed in front-wheel drive models as the MH7 and all-wheel drive models as the MHC. In some markets, this automatic transmission is best known as the Chevrolet Captiva and Opel Antara automatic transmission.

Disadvantages of the GM 6T45 gearbox

  • The most common failure of this transmission is a cracked spring disc in the 3-5-R drum;
  • Then its retainer usually breaks, scattering debris throughout the oil system;
  • Installing a reinforced original won’t help here, but there are non-original solutions;
  • In early versions of the transmission, there were cases of differential bolts loosening;
  • Other problems here are related to overheating or solenoids failing.
