The General Motors 6T70 6-speed automatic transmission has been produced in the United States since 2007 and is used in front-wheel drive models as the M7W or in all-wheel drive models as the M7U. A rare MH2 modification is also available for the front-wheel drive Chevrolet Impala Limited PPV.

Disadvantages of the GM 6T70 gearbox
- The weak point of the first transmissions was the unreliable spring disc of the 3-5-R drum;
- The design was updated in 2009, and failures have become less common since then;
- Also, automatic transmissions before 2012 suffered from a short-lived solenoid block;
- Under severe operating conditions, the torque converter often fails by 80,000 km;
- Other problems are related to clutch wear or transmission overheating.
