Disadvantages of the Ford CD4E gearbox

  • The transmission is considered unreliable, but its design is simple and easy to repair;
  • The weak point of the automatic transmission is the oil pump: both the gears and the shaft break here;
  • Next come problems with the solenoid unit, which quickly exhausts its service life;
  • The brake band also frequently breaks and the clutch drum of the Forward-Direct clutch often cracks;
  • At high mileage, oil pressure drops due to wear of the seals and bushings.
