The Ford CD4E 4-speed automatic transmission was produced in Batavia from 1994 to 2002 and was installed in popular Ford models such as the Mondeo and Probe. After a minor upgrade in 2000, this transmission was redesignated the 4F44E.

Disadvantages of the Ford CD4E gearbox
- The transmission is considered unreliable, but its design is simple and easy to repair;
- The weak point of the automatic transmission is the oil pump: both the gears and the shaft break here;
- Next come problems with the solenoid unit, which quickly exhausts its service life;
- The brake band also frequently breaks and the clutch drum of the Forward-Direct clutch often cracks;
- At high mileage, oil pressure drops due to wear of the seals and bushings.
