The 4-speed automatic transmission Aisin AW 03-71LS has been offered since about 1981 and was initially intended for rear- or all-wheel drive Toyota models under the index A43DL. However, in the mid-nineties, this transmission began to be installed on many Mitsubishi models.

Disadvantages of the AW 03-71LS gearbox
- Like most similar transmissions, this automatic is very, very reliable.
- Most often, such automatic transmissions come in for repair with critical wear of the clutches.
