The Ford MPS6, or Ford PowerShift, 6-speed preselective robotic transmission with dual wet clutches was assembled from 2007 to 2016 and installed in many Ford and Volvo models. This transmission is a clone of the Getrag 6DCT450 and has been replaced by the MPS6i, or 6DCT451, since 2014.

In 2007, Getrag began production of the new 6DCT450 robotic transmission, known under the marketing name “Power Shift” in Ford and Volvo models. In terms of design, it is a fairly typical preselective robotic transmission with two wet clutches, designed for transverse-mounted engines with torque up to 450 Nm. In 2014, an updated version of the Getrag 6DCT451 transmission and its counterpart, the Powershift MPS6i, were released.

Disadvantages of the Ford MPS6 gearbox
- A well-known weak point of this series’ robotic transmission is its unreliable clutch damper. Not only do the springs sag, causing jerky shifts, but the plastic retainers also disintegrate, with fragments being carried throughout the oil system.
- The two clutch packs in an oil bath quickly contaminate the transmission’s lubrication system with wear debris, clogging the channels in the valve body and solenoids. This is why very frequent oil and filter changes are recommended for these transmissions.
- This robotic transmission has plastic tips on the ends of the shift forks that cannot withstand abrupt starts and can simply break off, causing the transmission to seize.
- At high mileage, vibrations are common due to wear of the input shaft bearing, as well as leaks at the gearbox cover seal and failure of the input shaft speed sensor.
