Disadvantages of the Ford AWF21 gearbox
- This automatic transmission is used with powerful engines, and the torque converter clutch wears out quickly;
- This dirt then clogs the valve body solenoids, so renew the lubricant more frequently;
- If the torque converter clutch is severely worn, the oil pump cover bushing often breaks;
- Remaining problems are caused by transmission overheating due to a clogged heat exchanger;
- High temperatures destroy the O-rings, and the oil pressure drops;
- Then the clutches begin to burn out, starting with the C2 clutch pack (4th-5th-6th gears).
