The Ford 8F40 8-speed automatic transmission has been produced at Ford plants since 2018 and is installed on models equipped with the powerful 2.0 EcoBoost turbo engine and 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engine. This automatic transmission was developed jointly with General Motors and shares many similarities with the 9T60 transmission.

Disadvantages of the Ford 8F40 gearbox
- This automatic transmission is new, and detailed breakdown statistics have not yet been compiled;
- So far, the only widespread complaints are delays when shifting in first gear;
- This transmission also frequently leaks oil through the electrical connector;
- There have been cases of impacts when shifting out of Park, and even jamming of the mechanism;
- A recall campaign was conducted to replace the torque converter in the Lincoln Corsair.
