The Chrysler 40TE 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled by the company from 2003 to 2010 and installed in the Sebring, Neon, and Stratus, but is best known as the Chrysler PT Cruiser automatic transmission. This transmission is essentially a modification of the 41TE transmission for four-cylinder engines.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Chrysler PT Cruiser 1 (PT) in 2003 – 2010;
- Chrysler Sebring 2 (JR) in 2003 – 2006;
- Dodge Neon 2 (PL) in 2003 – 2005;
- Dodge Stratus 2 (JR) in 2003 – 2006.
Disadvantages of the Chrysler 40TE gearbox
- The gearbox is most susceptible to prolonged slippage, as this damages the planetary gear;
- The torque converter clutch also needs to be replaced every 90,000 km, otherwise the oil pump bushing will break;
- The solenoid block quickly gets dirty with clutch dust, but it’s easy to clean;
- A clogged oil channel can cause the rear axle bearing to spin;
- There are also plenty of electrical problems, including weak wiring, contacts, and RPM sensors.
