The Chrysler 42LE (or A606) 4-speed automatic transmission was assembled from 1992 to 2003 and installed in front-wheel-drive, longitudinally mounted LH platform models. In many markets, this transmission is known as the Chrysler 300M automatic transmission and the similar Dodge Intrepid.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Chrysler Concorde 1 in 1992 – 1997; Concorde 2 in 1997 – 2003;
- Chrysler LHS 1 in 1993 – 1997; LHS 2 in 1998 – 2001;
- Chrysler New Yorker 14 in 1994 – 1996;
- Chrysler 300M 1 (LR) in 1998 – 2003;
- Dodge Intrepid 1 in 1993 – 1997; Intrepid 2 (LH) in 1997 – 2003;
- Eagle Vision 1 (LH) in 1992 – 1997;
- Plymouth Prowler 1 in 1997 – 2002.
Disadvantages of the Chrysler 42LE gearbox
- The solenoid unit in automatic transmissions had little service life until 1999, but it was later modernized;
- The solenoids in the updated transmission typically last 150,000 to 200,000 km;
- The torque converter clutch needs to be replaced every 150,000 km, otherwise the oil pump bushing will break;
- The selector position and RPM sensors often fail in the automatic transmission’s electrical system;
- The transmission doesn’t tolerate prolonged slippage, which quickly causes the planetary gear to disintegrate.
