The Chrysler 46RH (or A518) 4-speed automatic transmission was produced from 1992 to 1996 and was installed in rear- or all-wheel drive models with the 5.2-liter Magnum ELF engine. This automatic transmission served as the basis for the very popular 44RE and 46RE electronically controlled automatic transmissions.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Dodge Dakota 1 (AN) in 1992 – 1996;
- Dodge Ram 2 (DR) in 1993 – 1995;
- Jeep Grand Cherokee 1 (ZJ) in 1992 – 1995.
Disadvantages of the Chrysler 46RH gearbox
- This automatic transmission is quite reliable, and problems only occur at high mileage;
- The torque converter clutch needs to be replaced every 150,000 km, otherwise the solenoids will become clogged with dirt;
- A drop in pressure causes the clutches in the Direct and Forward transmissions to burn out;
- By 250,000 km, the brake band and reverse drum often need to be replaced;
- The centrifugal regulator and unreliable wiring are also considered weak points.
