Disadvantages of the Chrysler 48RE gearbox

  • This is a reliable transmission, but its service life is highly dependent on operating conditions;
  • In overly active owners, the torque converter clutch burns out by 100,000 km;
  • The solenoids become clogged with dirt, which then causes the oil pressure to drop and the clutches to burn out;
  • Closer to 200,000 km, the brake band and reverse drum are usually replaced;
  • A common cause of automatic transmission failure is the centrifugal regulator, as well as the wiring.
