Gearbox Ford 5R55E

The Ford 5R55E 5-speed automatic transmission was first introduced in 1996, and almost immediately the company began actively modernizing it. In addition to the base version, the following modifications are available: 5R55N, 5R55S, and 5R55W.

Disadvantages of the Ford 5R55 gearbox

  • Transmission reliability depends on its year of manufacture, and the newer the transmission, the better;
  • This automatic transmission is sensitive to dynamic driving; it often breaks down in active drivers;
  • Most often, brake bands break, pistons burst, and the pump fails;
  • Torque converter solenoids often become clogged with dirt by 60,000 km;
  • This happens even faster if this transmission is regularly overheated.
