Gearbox Ford 5F27E

The 5-speed automatic transmission Ford 5F27E or FNR5 was introduced in 2005. The transmission was developed jointly with Mazda for a series of platform-sharing models and was installed on cars with engines under 2.5 liters and 250 Nm of torque.

Disadvantages of the Ford 5F27 gearbox

  • The transmission is considered unreliable and is sensitive to aggressive acceleration, such as full-throttle acceleration;
  • The soft metal of the rear cover can cause the shaft to warp and damage the bearings;
  • The second typical failure is uneven wear of the brake band;
  • This causes vibrations, wears out the reverse drum, and causes loss of reverse;
  • The adaptive VFS solenoids have a limited lifespan and quickly become dirty.
