Gearbox ZF 9HP28

The ZF 9HP28 9-speed automatic transmission was produced in the USA from 2014 to 2018 and was installed on the Fiat 500X and the similar Jeep Renegade in combination with the 1.4 MultiAir engine. On cars from the Stellantis concern, this gearbox is known under its own index 928TE.

  • Fiat 500X I (334) in 2014 – 2018 (as 928TE);
  • Jeep Renegade 1 (BU) in 2014 – 2018 (as 928TE).

Disadvantages of the ZF 9HP28 gearbox

  • In the early years, cases of involuntary transition of the gearbox to neutral were recorded.
  • Renew the lubricant more often or the solenoids will quickly become clogged with wear products.
  • Due to the design features, the automatic transmission does not tolerate long driving at high engine speeds.
  • The weak point of all automatic transmissions in this series are bushings and rubber gaskets.
