In the old version of type AW55-50SN the symbols have the following meaning:

  • The first two letters are part of the official company name Aisin AW;
  • The third digit indicates the number of the family to which this gearbox belongs;
  • The fourth and sixth digits indicate the position of the gearbox in the family;
  • The fifth digit in most cases tells about the number of gears;
  • The last two characters encrypt some transmission characteristics.

In the new version of the TB-50LS type, the abbreviation is deciphered differently:

  • The first two letters are the number of the family to which this gearbox belongs;
  • The third digit always indicates the number of gears of this transmission;
  • The fourth number tells about the position of the gearbox within its family;
  • The last two letters have the same meaning as in the previous case.
