Gearbox Aisin AW50-40LM

The Aisin AW50-40LM 4-speed automatic transmission was produced only from 1999 to 2003 and was installed in the Alfa Romeo 156 Q-System in conjunction with the 2.5-liter V6 engine only. This automatic transmission was also used for one year in the Lancia Lybra Comfortronic in conjunction with the 2.0-liter engine.

Disadvantages of the Aisin AW50-40LM gearbox

  • This is a very reliable automatic transmission, and problems only occur at high mileage;
  • Closer to 200,000 km, the torque converter lockup clutch usually wears out significantly;
  • And its wear products clog the valve body, which is very sensitive to lubrication;
  • If you drive for long periods with the transmission jerking, the oil pump bushing will break, causing leaks;
  • Rarely, cracks in the Forward-Direct drum and brake band separation occur.
