The Aisin AW60-40LE 4-speed automatic transmission was produced at a Japanese plant from 1993 to 2009 and was installed in popular models such as the Fiat Bravo and Marea, as well as the Suzuki Swift and Baleno. In Opel vehicles, this transmission is known under its own designation, the AF13.

Disadvantages of the Aisin AW60-40LE gearbox

  • This is a reliable Japanese automatic transmission, and it’s not installed with the most powerful engines;
  • Even the torque converter lockup clutch wears out after 250,000 km;
  • Then, shaft vibrations cause the oil pump bushing to break, leading to oil leaks;
  • And the planetary gear of this transmission is very sensitive to a significant drop in oil level;
  • At high mileage, the wiring and input and output speed sensors are often replaced.
