The 5-speed automatic transmission Aisin AW55-51SN was manufactured at a plant in Japan from 2001 to 2013 and was installed on the first generation Ford Kuga and many charged modifications of Volvo models. Many people confuse this transmission with the AW55-51LE, which was installed on General Motors crossovers.

Disadvantages of the Aisin AW55-51SN gearbox
- This is a reliable Japanese gearbox, but in the first years its hydraulic unit did not last long.
- Also, the first automatic transmissions had a number of cases of antifreeze getting into the oil.
- By 2004, all the weak points were fixed and the problems became typical for any automatic transmission.
- After 200 thousand km, its torque converter locking clutch wears out.
- Then wear products clog the hydraulic unit and jolts appear when shifting.
- In advanced cases, vibrations break the bushing at the oil pump and leaks begin.
