The Toyota U142E 4-speed automatic transmission was produced at the Japanese plant from 2000 to 2003 and was installed on the second generation of the RAV4 crossover together with the 2.0-liter 1AZ-FE engine. This gearbox is rare and finding a donor unit is always a problem.

The transmission was installed on:
- Toyota RAV4 2 (XA20) in 2000 – 2003.
Disadvantages of the Toyota U142E gearbox
- First of all, this is a very rare gearbox and the choice of used units is minimal;
- Otherwise all its problems are typical of the U-series, including the temperamental Fujitsu ECU;
- Under active driving the valve body solenoids get clogged with lockup clutch wear debris;
- At high mileage the Teflon rings in the rear cover of the gearbox wear out;
- The oil pressure in the system then drops, which greatly shortens the life of the planetary gearset.
