The Audi 01J or Multitronic VL-300 continuously variable transmission was produced from 1999 to 2007 together with LuK and was installed on many Audi models with a longitudinally mounted power unit. The continuously variable transmission with a pulling belt was designed for engine torque up to 310 Nm.

Disadvantages of the Audi 01J gearbox
- The reliability of this continuously variable transmission is very dependent on the year of manufacture: the newer, the better.
- The transmission is afraid of overheating; hot oil damages its control unit.
- Often the injection pump and all three electric regulator solenoids are replaced in the gearbox.
- The drive chain often stretches after a mileage of about 100 thousand kilometers.
- Other problems include a delicate differential and leaks from the axle seals.
