Disadvantages of the VW AL550 gearbox
- This is a strong and resourceful automatic transmission, and breakdowns only occur at high mileage.
- The problems here begin with wear on the torque converter lock-up clutch.
- This dirt clogs the valve body solenoids and then the gearbox starts to push.
- As the clutch wears out, the shaft begins to vibrate, breaking the oil pump bearing.
- This automatic transmission is also known for leaks in the pan or in the electrical connector gasket.
