The Volkswagen 089 3-speed automatic transmission was produced only from 1985 to 1991 and was installed in high-performance versions of the Audi 80 and 100, including those with a 2.2-liter turbo engine. This transmission is capable of handling up to 250 Nm of torque.

Disadvantages of the Volkswagen 089 gearbox
- This automatic transmission’s reliability is above average, and mileages exceeding 300,000 km are not uncommon.
- Most often, owners replace the brake band and, of course, the seals.
- Keep a close eye on the oil level, otherwise you’ll have to look for a new transmission.
