Description
In 2003, the Japanese concern Aisin released the first 6-speed automatic transmission, which was intended for front-wheel drive cars with transverse engines. This simple in design hydromechanical automatic with a planetary scheme according to Lepelletier existed in two different versions: AQ250 or 09G for VAG models with units up to 250 Nm and GA6F21WA for Mini cars with power units up to 280 Nm of torque.
In 2009, the second generation of this gearbox appeared, again in a couple of versions, but only for VAG: AQ160 was installed on the most budget models with naturally aspirated engines up to 1.6 liters, AQ260 was installed on models with engines up to 2.5 liters, mainly for the American market.

Service regulations
The manufacturer does not regulate oil changes, but we recommend updating it every 60 thousand km. There are 7.0 liters of lubricant in the system, and with a partial replacement, you will need from 4.0 to 5.0 liters. It is advisable to pour oil with ATF JWS-3309 and G 052 025 A2 approvals, as well as the original Toyota T-IV.
Disadvantages of the Aisin TF-60SN gearbox
Problems of the first years
In the first years of production of this transmission, a lot of trouble was caused by the capricious valve body and owners often had to change solenoids, and sometimes the entire block before 50,000 km. However, the manufacturer quickly corrected the problem and the problem went away for the most part.
Heat exchanger
Most modifications of this gearbox are equipped with a water-oil heat exchanger, which gets clogged with dirt from wear of the clutches and the automatic transmission immediately begins to overheat. This leads to deformation of the housing, a decrease in lubrication pressure and rapid wear of the gearbox.
Oil pump
This gearbox is equipped with a torque converter lock with controlled slip, which contributes to rapid wear of the locking clutch and contamination of the gearbox valve body. If the clutch is not replaced in time, the vibrations of the shaft will break the oil pump bushing.
Mechanical part
A drop in oil pressure for one of the above reasons greatly reduces the resource of the mechanical part of the transmission, which in itself is reliable and does not cause problems. Wear starts with the bushings and ends with complete destruction of the planetary gear sets.
The manufacturer stated the resource of the TF-60SN gearbox at 200,000 km, but this automatic transmission runs 250,000 km.
