The Toyota AL80E 8-speed automatic transmission, also known as the Direct Shift-8AT, has been produced by the company since 2023 and is installed on rear-wheel drive versions of the Tacoma pickup together with the T24A-FTS engine. The all-wheel drive version of this gearbox has a hybrid modification under the index L580F.

Using
The transmission was installed on:
- Toyota 4Runner 6 (N500) since 2024;
- Toyota Tacoma 4 (N400) since 2023.
Disadvantages of the Toyota AL80E gearbox
- This gearbox appeared too recently for detailed failure statistics to have been collected;
- In the first year there were many complaints about jerking, but firmware updates solved them;
- There was also a recall campaign in the USA to replace oil contaminated with metal shavings;
- But the main problem is early engagement of the torque converter lockup;
- Because of this the oil gets dirty quickly and it needs to be changed as often as possible.
