Disadvantages of the Toyota U341F gearbox

  • This is a fairly reliable gearbox and problems occur only at high mileage;
  • Under active driving the lockup clutch wears out and this debris clogs the solenoids;
  • And if you drive for a long time with a worn clutch, the oil pump bushing will be destroyed;
  • The weak point of all U-series automatic transmissions is the Teflon rings in the rear cover;
  • After 200,000 km they often wear out and the oil pressure in the system drops;
  • This gearbox also dislikes frequent hard starts, as the planetary gearsets may not hold up.
