Gearbox Aisin AW73-41LS

The Aisin AW73-41LS 4-speed automatic transmission was produced at the Japanese plant from 2002 to 2007 and was installed only on all-wheel-drive versions of the Pontiac Vibe with the 1.8-liter 1ZZ-FE engine. This automatic transmission was essentially a variant of the Toyota U341F transmission.

Disadvantages of the Aisin AW73-41LS gearbox

  • This is a reliable automatic transmission, but it doesn’t like frequent, sharp acceleration or prolonged wheel spin;
  • Under regular, high loads, the reverse drum simply warps;
  • Then its mounting points in the rear cover break, and the oil pressure drops;
  • The planetary gear sets, in turn, don’t tolerate low oil pressure;
  • Other automatic transmission problems are typical and are caused by contamination of the valve body with wear products.
