Disadvantages of the ZF 8HP80 gearbox
- This automatic transmission hasn’t been around long enough for detailed breakdown statistics to be available;
- In the early years, there were frequent complaints about jolts and jerks, but firmware updates have fixed this;
- Sometimes the jolts disappear only after a complete transmission fluid change;
- You can also find descriptions of cases where the wiring harness needed to be replaced under warranty on specialized forums;
- And since the transmission is installed with powerful units, the torque converter clutch wears out quickly.
