Gearbox Toyota U540E

The Toyota U540E 4-speed automatic transmission was produced in Japan from 2000 to 2020 and was installed on the Toyota Rush, Avanza and Cami, as well as a number of Daihatsu models under the index A4Q-D1. In some sources the all-wheel drive version of this gearbox is called the U540F, or the A4R-D1 respectively.

Disadvantages of the Toyota U540E gearbox

  • This is a very simple and perfectly reliable automatic transmission with a long service life;
  • Problems occur only at high mileage and with rare oil changes;
  • It usually starts with the valve body simply getting clogged with wear debris;
  • Jerking when shifting follows and the clutches in the gearbox start to burn;
  • Owners on forums also often criticise the short-lived input and output shaft sensors.
