The Volkswagen AQ301 (or 09U) 8-speed automatic transmission has been produced at the company’s US plant since 2023 and is installed in the restyled Jetta 7 sedan, as well as the Tayron, sold in the US as the Tiguan. Unlike its predecessors, this transmission is not manufactured by Aisin, but by Hyundai Transys.

Disadvantages of the VW AQ301 gearbox
- This automatic transmission hasn’t been around long enough for detailed breakdown statistics to be compiled;
- So far, forums have only reported hesitation or jerking in first gear;
- There’s also a humming noise when driving in eighth gear, which disappears over time;
- Like all modern transmissions, this automatic transmission requires regular oil changes.
